Hi folks,
Recently, I was forced to get Sirius satellite radio because Pres. Bush and the religious right forced Howard Stern there. I really only got it to listen to Howard. I didn't get it for music because the NYC area already has a great radio station (WDHA).
I activated it about 10 days ago.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!
It blew me away.
The radio stations are fantastic. They are even better than WDHA (if that is possible). I don't want to take anything away from WDHA because it is a great radio station, but Sirius is like another whole dimension.
I have heard songs that I haven't heard in 20 years.
My favorite Sirius stations are (in order of preference):
1) channel 19 (the "Buzzsaw"). They play classic hard rock and classic heavy metal. It is very similar to 105.5 WDHA-FM, but even better.
2) channel 15 ("Classic Rewind"). They play "second generation rock" (1970's progressive rock, etc.). It is very similar to what 102.7 WNEW-FM was like in the 1980's.
3) channel 20 ("Octane"). They play modern hard rock.
4) channel 27 ("Hard Attack"). They play modern heavy metal.
Channels 19 and 15 play A LOT of Rush - like you wouldn't believe. Someone there loves Rush. I never heard so much Rush before in my entire life.
Carol Miller (who used to be my favorite DJ in the 1980's) was on WNEW-FM in the 1980's. She is now on Sirius channel 14. They play mostly 1960's music.
Mr. Coppola and Cousin Brucie are also on Sirius. I think I heard Pat St. John on it too. These were all DJ's from my younger years.
The first time I ever turned on Sirius (channel 15), they were playing Roger Waters' song "Leaving Beirut". The first time I ever tuned to channel 19, they were playing Rush. I swear to god. I'm not lying. It blew me away.
