Hi folks,
Something very disturbing is about to happen. Evangelical Christians (primarily from America) are building a resort/conference center in Israel. The Israeli government is leasing them the land for free. I think this is bullshit, for several reasons.
1)Until a few years ago, Evangelical Christians HATED Jews. They were among the most anti-Semitic people on the planet. The Bible says that Jews must be in the Holy Land in order for the second coming of Christ to occur. So now, all of a sudden, they are not so anti-Semitic anymore. I like Jews because I think they are wonderful people - not because the Bible says that they should be in the Holy Land. If you are a Jew, would you rather be friends with someone like me (who likes you for who you are), or would you rather be friends with Evangelical Christians (who like you because of what it says in the Bible)?
2)There are several other religious groups in the Holy Land (Coptic Christians, Arian Christians, Eastern Orthodox Christians, Lebanese Christians, Roman Catholics, Muslims, etc., etc.). This deal isn't fair to them. Why are they being pushed aside? Some of these groups have been pushing for this type of a deal for hundreds of years, but they never got it.
3)This deal is all about money. Evangelical Christians have a lot of money. They will spend this money as tourists in Israel. These types of deals should be based on merit, not on money.
4)Evangelical Christians have openly said that they will try to convert Jews to Christianity. Some people visiting this center will actually be "missionaries".
I strongly urge the Israeli goverenment to reverse course and reject this deal.
