Hi folks,
Scientists and historians have a new theory about Mayan temples. They were not simply places of worship.
In Mayan Central America, there is a river that literally flows into and out of a mountain (via caves). The Mayans perceived this as a creating force or a god. It symbolized birth and death, not only of humans, but of civilization itself. The place where this occurs is the only major Mayan city that does not have a temple. There is a reason for this. In other cities, the temple takes the place of the natural mountain. In the city near the natural mountain, there is no need for a "fake" mountain (a temple). They now believe that this city was THE headquarters of Mayan civilization (the city without the temple).
Interesting.
