Hi folks,
Who was the first Pope?
Was it the first Roman Catholic Pope?
Was it the first leader of the Coptic Christian Church in Egypt?
Was it the first leader of the Arian Christian Church in Antioch, Syria?
The first Christian temple ever built was called "The Temple of Eve". It was located in a Red Sea port city in modern-day Saudi Arabia.
Egypt and Syria followed. The Coptic Christian movement took hold in Egypt. They are still around today.
The Arian Christian movement took hold in Antioch, Syria. This movement was named after Aries the Ram because the Star of Bethlehelm was located in the constellation Aries. I think this sect is defunct/extinct today. The Arian Christians were very iconoclastic. Jesus was personified as Aries the Ram. Of coures, this pitted them against the Coptic Christians, who were very anti-iconoclactic. The Syrians and Egyptians had been bitter enemies for centuries before this anyway.
This all occurred in the first 2 centuries A.D.
Constantine the Great converted to Christianity on his deathbed (literally!!!) in the 4th century A.D. Prior to that, it was mostly Roman women who were Christians. The Roman Empire (and Italy) didn't officially and wholly convert to Christianity until the 5th century A.D.
